Advocating for your deaf child

There will be times in your child’s life where you will require advocacy skills. Advocacy means promoting the welfare and best interests of your child. For parents of deaf children, this may mean ensuring that your child receives the services they need and deserve to achieve their potential.

The key to being a successful advocate is to have all the information you need. This can be time-consuming but is most important for effective advocacy. Talk to professionals and other parents and read everything you can on your particular area of concern. The Internet is an excellent starting point for information.
