How we help - Advocacy

What is advocacy?

Advocacy is the process of supporting an individual or group and speaking up on their behalf to protect and promote their rights and interests.

Individual advocacy

Parents are natural advocates for their children - nobody understands or has an interest in your child like you do. Parents have a variety of skills which can assist them to become good advocates for their child. You need not feel powerless about decision making which affects your child. You can take control in defending or arguing for the services your child needs. Learn more about advocating for your deaf child.

PCDE and Systemic Advocacy

Parent Council for Deaf Education aims to influence change and improve opportunities for deaf children and their families through campaigns directed at policy makers and Government. PCDE achieves this by liaising with Government officers, teachers, parents and other relevant people to monitor and review the provision of services for deaf children and their families.

PCDE needs parent participation to provide us with a powerful voice when advocating and campaigning for deaf children and their families on a local and statewide level. Contact us if you would like to have a say on either the provision of services in your local community or at a government policy level.

Note: We use the term 'deaf' to mean all types of deafness
